"Simple web design resources for every newbie who wants to do it all and get the credit"
Announcing Your New Website
You have completed the building of your website and now you want people to know about it, right? This is the very first step in marketing your website - you need to put it in people's faces. It is like  announcing the arrival of a new kid on the block. So how do you go about this, considering that your site is just one out of millions in the same subject category.

Follow the following 6 steps and you will get your new website noticed as quickly as possible

1.) Make sure it’s professional looking.

Pay a good web designer to design a good website for you. This should ensure that your site is as professional as possible. Otherwise, use a good free or purchased WYSIWYG web builder, or invest money to learn how to use programs such as Dreamweaver or Frontage, if you have the time.

Whatever you do, just make sure your site is clean, functional and well organized. As already explained in
web design checklist, nobody has the time or patience to weed through your tons of cybernetics to get the information that they want. Make your site as user-friendly as possible, and people will be happy to visit and re-visit your site.
2.) Add URL To Search Engines And Directories

Slapping your URL on business cards and hassling all your family and friends to check out your new site won’t exactly make your website an overnight hot topic. But submitting it to search engines will make it easier for people to find you, provided that your webpage actually has the information they are searching for.

To understand how a search engine works, think of it as a crawling “spider”: it crawls through your website, picking up words and information which would later be indexed in the search engine’s database. To help the search engine spiders to find you, make sure that you sprinkle your webpage with the keywords that you believe people will use to find you.

This means writing your content in such a way that you weave your main keywords for the page around the content - meaningfully. These keywords will ensure that the spiders “understand" what your site is all about and therefore index you appropriately.

Please take good note of the word "meaningfully" above. If you just keep repeating your keyword or key-phrase throughout your webpage, the search engine spiders will treat it as spamming, and will either totally ignore you, or penalise you, thereby effectively killing off your search engine optimisation efforts.

You should also write for the humans who read your content. If your site makes no sense to human beings, you might as well close up and forget about owning a website.

Remember that they are the ones who are doing business with you. If what you write does not make sense to your visitors, then they will leave your website, and most importantly, will not return since you do not give them anything to return to. Therefore, in as much as you need to make the search  engines pick you up based on your keywords, you need to also make sure that your audience find your content both sensible and useful.

You can submit your websites manually, or use free web submission companies such as www.submitexpress.com
which can submit your website to a limited number of search engines.

You should also submit to web directories, among the top of which are Yahoo and Dmoz.com. Considering that there are so many of them to submit to, it is understandable if you are not able to submit to all the directories.

One tool that seriously simplifies this process is the
Directory submitter, which can easily submit your website to more than 500 directories. It does an excellent job, and you don't pay a monthly fee.
Marketing Your New Site: How To Get Your Site Noticed
Though it is acknowledged that submission services are likely to be faster and make the submission work easier for us all, it is still more advisable to submit your sites to the search engines by yourself, i.e. manually. However, this can really be difficult, especially if you want to submit to a significant number of search engines and directories.
